Sindh Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani has set up two committees to look into the activities of land grabbers, encroachers and officials involved in land-related illegal transactions.

Presiding over a meeting held in his office on Friday, the chief secretary said one committee would look into land grabbing activities in the province and recommend steps for taking action under law against officials and other people involved in encroachments and illegal land-related activities in Karachi.

The other committee would prepare a working paper for the regularisation and improvement of Katchi Abadis.

These committees would prepare a working paper in a week's time after identifying 538 Katchi Abadis notified in 1985 and suggest ways and means for removal of encroachments. It would be done with the assistance of land utilisation and other concerned departments.

He said that the required force for taking action against the encroachers and land grabbers would be made available to the teams taking action against illegal occupants of government land.

These committees will have additional chief secretary Local Government, Law Secretary, Director-General, Katchi Abadis, member, land utilisation, board of revenue, DCO Karachi, director Lyari Expressway as members.

This committee would suggest steps for taking action against government officials and other people involved in encroachments and land grabbing.

The meeting was informed that the CDGK was also working on preparing a report on requirement of police force and establishment of anti-encroachment cell.

The meeting also decided that the existing Master Plan of Karachi would be got approved by the City District Government Karachi Council and later it would be updated as per requirements of the city. The CDGK would prepare a presentation on the Master Plan within a week or two.

The meeting took up the issue of Education City and decided to refer it to the law department for clarification of ambiguities.

Those who attended the meeting included City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, additional chief secretary Local Government Muhammad Saleem Khan, secretary Services & General Administration Aijaz Qazi, District co-ordination Officer Karachi Mir Hussain Ali, Member Land Utilisation, Board of Revenue, Sindh, Muhammad Riaz Khan, officials of the National Highway Authority, Pakistan Railways, Karachi Port Trust and Public Works Department.
